Bond Information

Bonding

A bond, designed to ensure an individual's appearance in court, is set according to a court-approved schedule. The amount of the bond is what it will take to release an individual from jail.

To determine an inmate's bond type and amount please call 970-725-3343 and select or ask for the jail.  For information on the return of bond funds contact the Grand County Courts at 970-725-3357.

NOTE:  Once funds are deposited on an inmate’s account, the funds become the property of the inmate. No money is returned to the depositor unless the funds are released to an individual by the inmate.

Fees

The Grand County Sheriff's Office charges a $10 filing fee (cash only) for each bond.

In addition, the Grand County Sheriff's Office charges a $30 booking fee.

Bond Types

Personal Recognizance Bond

The judge may grant a personal recognizance (PR) bond. This is a signature bond involving no money or property as long as the individual appears at all future court dates. Individuals will be released on their own signature, which acts as a promise to appear in court.

Surety Bond

Bond may be posted through the service of any state-licensed bondsman, who may require a co-signer and/or collateral to secure the bond. Staff members will not recommend a bondsman.

Cash Bond

Requires the full amount of bond in cashier’s check (made payable to Grand County Sheriff’s Office), or cash, which the court will return once court appearances are completed.

Online Bonds

To arrange for bonding online, please call the jail at 970-725-3343 and we will assist you in making these payments remotely

Most funds are available immediately, however, depending on your bank, some funds may take a couple days to become available. Fees do apply.

These services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

HB25-1015  Requirements:

All Colorado County Sheriffs must have a functioning process clearly posted on their website to ensure all bonds of any amount that are postable in person are also postable remotely, without the need for the surety to go to the jail in person.

HB25-1015 clarifies that legal rights for people posting bond in person also apply to people posting bond remotely, including:

● No surety relinquishment of funds. Sureties who post bond remotely must not be asked to return funds to the defendant, post the funds to the defendant’s commissary account, or put funds on the defendant’s “books.”

● No credit card processing fees above 3.5%.

● No required fees other than credit card processing. No fees, including booking or bond fees, may be required to post bond and secure an individual’s pretrial release. Sheriffs must explicitly provide sureties with the option to decline payment of fees.

● 6-hour release. Defendants must be released within 6 hours of bond being posted remotely.

● Notice of legal rights. Sheriffs must provide a copy of the legal rights related to posting money bond and bond paperwork to all individuals who post bond, whether remotely or in person.

The law requires each county to review and, where necessary, update the sheriff’s website, signage, paperwork, and forms to comply with HB25-1015 before October 1, 2025.
