Grand County Sheriff's Office Staff Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 2, 2025

GRAND COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE BRINGS AWARENESS TO BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

GRAND COUNTY, CO – In recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the Pink Patch Project public awareness campaign to bring attention to the fight against breast cancer and highlight the opportunities to provide support to those facing cancer in Grand County. Deputies will be wearing pink Sheriff’s Office patches and pink logoed shirts as a part of their uniform throughout October. Wearing pink serves as a visual reminder of the importance of early detection and intervention in the fight against breast cancer and the need for continued community conversation and support for those facing this challenge.

Middle Park Health’s mammography screening services have recently expanded with their new 3D mammography machine and full-time mammographer on staff. The American College of Radiology recommends annual mammography screenings starting at age 40 for women of average risk of developing breast cancer. Call (970) 887-5800 or talk with your primary care provider to schedule your screening. Middle Park Medical Foundation is currently raising funds to support the expansion of this service and donations can be made online to support the new machine at www.MiddleParkMedicalFoundation.org

Taking Steps for Cancer is a fundraising organization in partnership with Mountain Family Center to support Grand County cancer patients with their out of pocket expenses. Grand County cancer patients incur burdensome medical expenses, often lose income due to missed work and travel long distances for screening and treatments with specialists. Each year, Taking Steps for Cancer raises over $225,000 in donations to cover some of these families’ expenses like gas, hotels, groceries, copays, screening and more. The 13th Annual 5K and Auction is scheduled on Sunday, October 5 at the Daven Haven Lodge in Grand Lake. Learn more about this fundraising event and other ways to get involved at www.TakingStepsForCancer.org. In addition, Mountain Family Center and Taking Steps will be offering Cancer Support Groups at the Granby Library beginning in October. Visit www.TakingStepsForCancer.org/group-support-calendar or call Katie at Mountain Family Center for additional details at (970) 557-3186.

Breast cancer has impacted many of our lives and those we know and love. As a community, there are several ways we come together and show support in the fight against breast cancer. Encourage your loved ones to complete regular medical screenings to increase early detection. Support organizations making a difference in the lives of families facing the challenges associated with this disease. The power of conversation around this topic is vital and the reason why we are choosing to wear pink this October.
