SUSPECT IN WINTER PARK HIGHLANDS HOME BREAK IN ARRESTED AND INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

GRAND COUNTY, CO- On September 26, 2025, at approximately 4:36 p.m. the Grand County Communications Center received a report of a break in that had just occurred at a residence in the Winter Park Highlands neighborhood near Tabernash.

As Deputies and the Fraser Winter Park Police Department continued to investigate this incident on the morning of September 27, 2025, they were able to determine that the suspect, John William Villines, a forty-one-year-old male from Missouri, had fled the original scene, stolen another license plate and then fled from the Grand County area.

On Sunday, September 28 at approximately 8 p.m. the Grand County Sheriff’s Office was notified that Mr. Villines was arrested by the Lawrence Police Department in Kansas on a Grand County Arrest Warrant from this incident. Mr. Villines is in the process of being extradited back to Colorado on charges of C.R.S. 18-4-502 (1) (a) CRIMINAL TRESPASS (M1); C.R.S 18-3-206 MENACING FELONY (F5); C.R.S. 18-6.5-103(4), 18-4-301(1), and 18-2-101, CRIMINAL ATTEMPT AT RISK ROBBERY (F4); C.R.S. 18-6.5-103(3)(c) and 18-3-204(1)(a) ASSAULT AT RISK (F6).

Grand County Sheriff’s Office Detectives are continuing to work the case and it is believed that there are other homes in the Winter Park Highlands area that Mr. Villines may have accessed. Primary and secondary homeowners are encouraged to check their residences, outbuildings and vehicles for suspicious circumstances and contact the Sheriff’s Office to file a report. Following the arrest of Mr. Villines, there is no further threat to the Grand County community.

These charges are only accusations based on probable cause, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
