Grand County Colorado Launches New Emergency Alert System
Residents Urged to Register
GRAND COUNTY, Colo., April 2, 2026 — Today Grand County launched “Grand County Alerts,” a state-of-the-art emergency notification system powered by Rave – Motorola and Smart911. This new platform replaces the former CodeRED system and represents a significant upgrade in emergency communications.
“Grand County Alerts strengthens our ability to communicate with residents when it matters most,” said Emergency Management Director Alexis Kimbrough. “This service allows for critical, real-time communication, providing the public with the information they need to take immediate precautions during hazardous situations.”
The transition to Grand County Alerts was driven by a commitment to data security and public trust following a widely reported data breach involving the previous vendor, CodeRED. Registering for the emergency alert service is free, and provides timely alerts about law enforcement activity, evacuations and other emergency situations via phone call, text message or email.
Individuals who were previously signed up for CodeRED will not be automatically enrolled in Grand County Alerts. To receive life-saving notifications, all residents, business owners, second-home owners and visitors must manually register.
How to Sign Up
Registration takes less than five minutes. The new system is very robust, and off ers users to provide additional information about themselves to help during an emergency, such as medical needs or conditions, disabilities, number of pets in the household and livestock. Providing this information is only optional - the most important information is your name, the phone number(s) to send information to during an emergency, and your location on the map.
To register:
● Visit GCEmergency.com and click on “Register for Grand County Alerts,”
● Text “GCALERTS” to 67283, or
● Download the “Smart911” app from the App Store or Google Play
For help registering, call 970-725-3801 or email OEM@co.grand.co.us. Public safety officials encourage the community to sign up immediately to ensure they are reachable before the upcoming spring weather season.
