ARREST OF WANTED FUGITIVE RESULTS IN BRIEF HIGHWAY 40 CLOSURE
GRAND COUNTY, CO- On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office received information from the Granby Police Department of a wanted fugitive that had been tracked to the Granby area. At approximately 3:30 p.m. a Grand County Sheriff’s Office Deputy observed a vehicle associated with this fugitive driving westbound on Highway 40 near Mile Post 210 (Windy Gap area).
Due to officer and community safety concerns, a high-risk traffic stop was conducted on Highway 40 near Mile Post 207 (Drowsy Water area). As a result of this stop and the subsequent safety concerns, both eastbound and westbound traffic was stopped in this area for approximately 20 minutes until deputies were able to safely place the suspect under arrest.
The wanted fugitive, identified as James Jason Tobias Lee, age 26, from the Denver area, was subsequently arrested without further incident and booked into the Grand County Jail for an active felony arrest warrant for 2nd Degree Assault issued by the Denver Police Department and Possession of Weapon Previous Offender (Class 6 Felony), and Possession of a Schedule 2 Controlled Substance (Drug Misdemeanor).
