STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERY RESULTS IN TWO ARRESTS
GRAND COUNTY, CO- On Saturday, April 15, 2023 at approximately 6:50 a.m., the Kremmling Police Department received a report of a stolen vehicle that had occurred overnight on Eagle Avenue in Kremmling. The stolen vehicle description was subsequently given to law enforcement across Grand County. At 9:11 a.m., a Grand County Sheriff’s Office Deputy located a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle (a white 2000 Subaru Outback) in the area near the Granby airport.
Deputies and Granby Police attempted to contact this vehicle and the driver failed to yield and led deputies on a pursuit through Granby and eastbound on Highway 40. On Highway 40, near the intersection with CR 894, the driver of the stolen vehicle intentionally drove towards a Sheriff’s Office Sergeant who was attempting to deploy tire deflation equipment across the highway. Deputies were then forced to slow down due to icy road conditions and lost visual of this vehicle in the Red Dirt area (Highway 40, Mile Post 218 – 219) and were alerted by a citizen that the vehicle had crashed at the intersection of west County Road 5 and Highway 40, and a male was seen running from the vehicle on County Road 5. Deputies with the assistance of Fraser Winter Park Police Department, were able to track the suspect to a nearby residence in the 6,000 block of County Road 5. The owner of the residence told deputies that the male and female suspects were inside of the residence and were not authorized to be there.
In an effort to notify residents in the area, an emergency notification was sent out advising residents of an active police incident and to shelter in place.
The Middle Park Emergency Response Team was activated and officers surrounded the residence and were able to establish communication with the parties inside. These negotiations were successful and an adult male and adult female voluntarily exited the residence and were safely taken into custody at 10:28 a.m. Both suspects were evaluated on scene by medical personnel for injuries sustained during the vehicle accident and then were transported to the Grand County Jail.
The arrestees are identified as Ely Ryszkowski, a 19-year-old male from Granby and Daisy Waggoner, a 19-year-old female from Granby. It was determined that Ryszkowski was the driver of the vehicle. Ryszkowski has been booked into the Grand County Jail on violations of Colorado Revised Statutes (CRS) 18-4-203 Second Degree Burglary (F3); CRS 18-3-202 Criminal Attempt Assault in the First Degree (F4); CRS 18-4-409 Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft (F5); CRS 18-9-116.5 Vehicular Eluding (F5); CRS 18-3-206 Menacing (F5); and CRS 18-4-502 First Degree Criminal Trespass to Motor Vehicle (M1). Waggoner has been booked into the Grand County Jail on violations of CRS 18-4-203 Second Degree Burglary (F3; CRS 18-4-409 Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft (F5), and CRS 18-4-502 First Degree Criminal Trespass to Motor Vehicle (M1).
These charges are based on an initial investigation and only accusations based on probable cause. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
