FENTANYL AND METHAMPHETAMINE RECOVERED DURING TRAFFIC STOP
GRAND COUNTY, CO- On Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at approximately 9:45 p.m. a Grand County Sheriff’s Office Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 34 at Mile Post 5 for an equipment violation.
A Grand County Sheriff’s Office K9 trained in drug detection was deployed and obtained a positive alert on the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle, resulted in the discovery of 25 gross grams of fentanyl and 78.1 gross grams of methamphetamine.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Richard Lawing, a 35-year-old male from Grand Lake. The passenger was identified as Cameron Gordanier, a 25- year-old male from Buena Vista.
Lawing was arrested and subsequently booked in to the Grand County Jail on violations of Colorado Revised Statutes (CRS) 18-18-403.5 Unlawful Possession of Schedule I/II Controlled Substance; CRS 18-18-403.5; CRS 18-18-405 Unlawful Intent to Distribute Schedule I/II Controlled Substance; CRS 18-6-803.5 Violation of a Protection Order; CRS 18-18-428 Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; CRS 42-2-101 Drove Vehicle Without Valid Driver’s License; and CRS 42-4-202 Drove a Defective Vehicle.
Cameron Gordanier was arresed for an active arrest warrant that had been issued out of the Chaffee County Courts for failure to comply for controlled substance.
Sheriff Brett Schroetlin stated, “This case along with another incident resulted in over 200 grams of illegal drugs being recovered by our Patrol Deputies and K9 teams on a Tuesday evening in Grand County. The Sheriff’s Office remains committed to keeping these drugs out of our community through strict enforcement and holding these offenders accountable.”
These charges are only accusations based on probable cause, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
