K9 DANNY RETIRES FROM GRAND COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
GRAND COUNTY, CO- On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, K9 Danny worked his last shift at the Grand County Sheriff’s Office. Partnered with Handler / Patrol Sergeant Nate Opsahl since 2015, the inseparable pair has been preparing for Danny’s well-deserved retirement after working together for the past nine years.
Originally from Hungary and born on February 1, 2014, K9 Danny, a German Shepherd, was brought to the United States when he was a year old. Sergeant Opsahl selected and trained with Danny for seven weeks at Vohne Liche Kennels in Denver, Indiana. Danny served the community as a dual-purpose canine certified in Patrol, Tracking and Narcotics detection and was often called upon through mutual aid requests by neighboring counties.
Among many highlights in his career, Danny received the High Desert Police K9 Association Tracking Case of the Year award in 2021 and in 2022.
K9 Danny will continue to live with Sergeant Opsahl in his retirement and is already enjoying the extra cuddles.
