SHERIFF’S OFFICE WARNS COMMUNITY ABOUT WARRANT FRAUD
GRAND COUNTY, CO – The Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports over the last several days of citizens in and outside of Grand County receiving fraud calls from individuals portraying to be from the Sheriff’s Office. These individuals are advising the caller that they have an unpaid warrant or court judgment and that they need to settle this financial transaction on the phone. The recipient is then asked to enter into the “Innocence Project” which then requires them to disclose their personal identifying information.
Unfortunately, other law enforcement agencies across Colorado have been experiencing similar fraudulent calls. The Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone that law enforcement will never contact you to settle a financial transaction over the phone and that the only valid way to clear a warrant or court judgment is in person at the Sheriff’s Office or directly with the court.
If you receive a call that you suspect is fraudulent please call the Sheriff’s Office immediately at our non-emergency Dispatch 970-725-3311.
