SHERIFF’S OFFICE WELCOMES K9 JACK
GRAND COUNTY, CO- The Grand County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the newest addition of K9 Jack to our K9 Unit. K9 Jack has been partnered with his handler, Deputy Brian Macchione. K9 Jack is a two-year old Belgian Malinois, born in Holland, speaks Dutch and loves working hard to play with his favorite ball on a rope toy. He is dual purpose and certified in Patrol, Tracking and Narcotics detection. Deputy Macchione and K9 Jack recently returned to Grand County after spending 7 weeks training together at The Next Level Canine Institute in Lapoint, Utah.
The purchase and training of K9 Jack was made possible by funding from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program through the Bureau of Justice Assistance U.S. Department of Justice. The JAG program is the leading source of federal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions.
Born and raised in Grand County, Deputy Macchione recently returned to serve in the community he calls home. He was sworn in as a Patrol Deputy with the Grand County Sheriff’s Office in December, 2022. Previously, he worked for six years at the Longmont Police Department where he had the opportunity to work as a K9 Handler and worked with two dogs.
Sheriff Brett Schroetlin stated, “The addition of K9 Jack to our K9 Unit bolsters our ability to provide additional support and resources for our law enforcement community. Unfortunately, we combat illegal behavior and narcotics in Grand County and K9 Jack is a tool we will use to help keep our community safe.”
