SHERIFF’S OFFICE ENCOURAGES PUBLIC TO PREPARE FOR EMERGENCIES

GRAND COUNTY, CO- The often-daily news stories of unfortunate incidents from around our nation and the world, serve as a good reminder of the importance of planning and preparation for the unforeseen. There are several steps we can each take to increase our public safety awareness and strengthen our resiliency as a community. The Grand County evacuation map and emergency notification system CodeRED, are important tools for community members and guests to take to be prepared for a future emergency.

In 2021 the Grand County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with our first response partner agencies, jointly created a countywide evacuation map for Grand County that can be located online at www.co.grand.co.us/EvacMap.

The evacuation map covers the entire county and divides locations into specific areas. The areas are labeled with a series of letters and numbers to allow for easy identification by both public safety officials and the public during an incident. Areas under no evacuation order will be displayed in green, areas under pre-evacuation will be displayed in yellow and areas being evacuated will be displayed in red.

The public is encouraged to become familiar with the evacuation map and utilize the search box to enter their address and view which evacuation area they live and work in. In an emergency, responders will reference specific areas and send notifications through CodeRED, Grand County’s cellular emergency notification system used to notify residents and visitors about time-sensitive and/or emergency information that may impact your area. For more information on how to sign up to receive CodeRED alerts visit www.co.grand.co.us/193/Sign-Up-for-Emergency-Alerts.
