HOMEOWNERS INTERRUPT BREAK IN AT WINTER PARK HIGHLANDS HOME

GRAND COUNTY, CO- On September 26, 2025, at approximately 4:36 p.m. the Grand County Communications Center received a report of a break in that had just occurred at a residence in the Winter Park Highlands neighborhood near Tabernash.

The homeowners of this residence arrived home and discovered a white Volvo with Missouri license plates backed into their garage and then noticed an adult male inside the garage as well. The adult male was described as being approximately 40 – 50 years old with grey hair, a partial beard. He was also wearing a hat and a medical mask. An altercation occurred between the male homeowner and the male suspect. The suspect then fled the scene in the white Volvo.

The initial investigation revealed that the homeowners did not know the suspect and it was determined the suspect had unlawfully accessed the house through a backdoor window.

Based on property that the suspect left at the scene, Deputies were able to obtain a suspect name that was consistent with the registered owner of the white Volvo. Deputies along with the assistance of the Fraser Winter Park Police Department, Granby Police Department and Colorado State Patrol in addition to the Grand County Emergency Response Team (ERT) conducted an extensive search of the Winter Park Highlands area, however were unable to locate the suspect.

For community awareness on the evening of September 26, a CodeRED and IPAWS notification was sent to the Winter Park Highlands area advising of the increased police presence and also broadcasting the suspect’s description and vehicle. This CodeRED and IPAWS notice is no longer in effect as the investigation has determined that the suspect is no longer in Grand County.

This remains a very active investigation and no additional information is able to be released at this time to maintain the integrity of the case. Homeowners in the Winter Park Highlands area are encouraged to check their residences, outbuildings and vehicles and report any suspicious circumstances to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office as there is the possibility that the suspect had also accessed other properties in the area.
