OEM Posted on June 27, 2025

GRAND COUNTY, CO - The Grand County Drought Preparedness Committee has officially declared that Grand County remains in Drought Watch, citing ongoing hot and dry conditions across much of the county despite some recent precipitation.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, 41% of Grand County is currently classified as "Abnormally Dry.· with 16% experiencing "Moderate Drought· conditions-primarily in the drier west end of the county, where drought conditions are likely to expand. We are closely monitoring the west end of the county, where snowmelt and streamflow are 2 weeks ahead of normal. While the wetter conditions in May and June have helped slow the progression of drought, it has not been enough to lift the county out of Drought Watch.

As we move into July, drought conditions could Intensify depending on the summer monsoonal pattern. Residents, property owners, and water users are encouraged to continue using water wisely. Listen to KWTR 89.1 FM throughout the day for drought information and water conservation tips and tricks. Let's all do our part and prepare - HELP OUT DURING DROUGHT!

Conservation Tips:

  • Waterwise landscaping: Consider landscaping your yard with native plants that require less water This not only conserves water but also supports local biodiversity.
  • Efficient Irrigation: Use drip irrigation systems or soaker hoses instead of traditional sprinklers to minimize water waste through evaporation and runoff.

These recommendations are voluntary and not regulatory in nature Per the Drought Preparedness Plan. Grand County will remain in Drought Watch until the Drought Preparedness Committee reconvenes in July.
