Today Grand County announced that Austin Wingate was promoted to Chief of Grand County Emergency Medical Services (GCEMS). Wingate was appointed Interim Chief in March.

“I am honored to be entrusted with the role of EMS Chief in Grand County. I look forward to continuing to work to support our amazing team of EMS providers, and continuing to nurture strong partnerships with all of our incredible community partners,” said Wingate.

Chief Wingate brings more than 18 years of experience in EMS and public safety to this role, and has been with GCEMS since September of 2021. Wingate has a Bachelor’s Degree in EMS Administration and is a graduate of several public safety leadership programs. He currently holds his Managing Paramedic Officer designation from the American College of Paramedic Executives and was recently selected as a 2024 EMSNext Award Winner by the American Ambulance Association.

“These are exciting times, and a new chapter for Grand County EMS,” said Grand County Manager Edward Moyer. “Mr. Wingate has extensive experience in many aspects of public safety, including EMS response and management. We are looking forward to many great things to come under Chief Wingate’s leadership.”
