Blizzards, Debris Flows & Other Natural Challenges
The mountains of Colorado can experience severe weather and fires that can change landscapes and the way soil and water behave. A destructive fire can damage the ground and make it susceptible to flood damage; heavy rains can move tons of rock and soil down mountainsides and accumulated snow can become avalanches. Grand County recently completed a Hazard Mitigation Plan, which identified these potential natural challenges and has been working to mitigate the threat of these challenges.
