The Upper Colorado Wild & Scenic Stakeholder Group consists of various state agencies, local governments, environmental and recreational interests, landowners, anglers, and water providers. Over 100 individuals representing more than 20 organizations came together as an independent collaborative stakeholder group to develop a local management alternative to Wild and Scenic River designation of the Upper Colorado River. The goal is to protect and perhaps enhance the outstandingly remarkable values on this part of the Colorado River in ways that coordinate with federal agency management.
In June 2020, the Upper Colorado River Wild & Scenic Stakeholder Group officially made it through the provisional period when the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service formally accepted the Amended and Restated Upper Colorado River Wild and Scenic Stakeholder Group Management Plan. This plan seeks to protect recreational fishing and boating related values along the Upper Colorado River from Gore Canyon to lower Glenwood Canyon.
