Three Fraser Winter Park Police officers were honored Tuesday at Winter Park Town Hall for life-saving measures they performed earlier this month on an emergency call. Officers Stensvad and Kupser and Sgt. Finley received the department’s life-saving medal after responding to a call in Wolf Park of an unconscious 71-year-old woman experiencing a seizure in August.

Grand County announces top EMS chief candidates

You can meet them at a Community Meet and Greet from 5:30–7 p.m. Tuesday at Granby Town Hall. Greyhound bus overturns in snow, no passengers hurt

A Greyhound bus full of passengers made an unexpected three-hour detour when the bus got caught in deep snow on US Highway 40 outside Winter Park on Sunday evening. East Grand Fire responded to a call around 6 p.m. Sunday that a Greyhound bus had gotten caught in deep snow and the bus had turned onto its side.

Two hurt in rollover that closed US 40

A rollover wreck outside of Winter Park closed US Highway 40 in both directions for a brief period of time Wednesday. Two men sustained serious injuries in the wreck, though their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening. The two were taken to Denver Health, according to Fraser Winter Park Police Chief Glen Trainor.

Two women were hurt in separate falling incidents Saturday in Grand County, including one that had volunteers with Grand County Search and Rescue rafting at night. According to a news release, a search and rescue team was called into action around 10 a.m. Saturday when a 55-year-old woman slipped about 12 feet into Jim Creek near the waterfall and hit her head on a log.

A 38-year-old woman was medevaced from Grand Lake Saturday afternoon after sustaining serious injuries while snowmobiling.

At around 2 p.m. Saturday, the woman was snowmobiling in the Porphyry Peak area near Grand Lake when she drove around a fence and over a cliff, falling about 150 feet down, according to Grand County Search and Rescue Field Director Greg Foley.

Hypothermic hiker rescued in Neversummer Wilderness

A 15 year-old hypothermic and severely dehydrated hiker stranded near Bowen Lake in the Neversummer Wilderness was rescued yesterday evening by local first responders.

The subject, whose name has not been released by local authorities, recently traveled to Colorado from Texas and hiked to Bowen Lake, elevation 11,600 feet, with a camping group including 10 people. The group of campers had a satellite phone and were able to call for search and rescue.

A skier savoring the big spring snow off Berthoud Pass just above timberline Sunday got caught in an avalanche and suffered an injury but survived.

Grand County rescuers reached two men and a woman at the scene of the avalanche — about 100 feet wide and 40 feet long — at about 11,500 feet elevation in the Currant Creek area.

GRANBY – Middle Park Medical Center announces the birth of Ada Rane Frank, born at Middle Park Medical Center in Granby earlier this month.

Melissa Riley and Travis Frank, of Granby, welcomed their daughter at 3:49 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, following an emergency delivery at their local hospital. Ada Rane was 18.5 inches long and weighed 5 pounds, 1 ounce.

DENVER - More than 100 police, fire and EMS agencies from across Colorado participated in a line-of-duty funeral procession on Thursday to honor Grand County EMS and Denver Health Paramedic Brian Schimpf.

Schimpf, 33, died Nov. 23 from complications of an injury he received while on duty as a captain with Grand County EMS. He underwent surgery on Nov. 20 after the accident, but was placed on life support due to complications with the surgery. He never regained consciousness.
