Shattered Dreams Program (High School DUI Prevention)
Traffic crashes, many of which involve alcohol and other drugs, are a leading cause of death and serious injury for youth 15 to 19 years of age. Communities around the state are often faced with these tragedies, and many high schools are turning to Shattered Dreams, a youth–led community collaborative program, to prevent more fatalities. GCEMS has been able to help put this program on at WGHS and MPHS in the past.

Child Safety Seat Inspection Station
Motor vehicle crashes still kill more kids than any other cause of death - yet more than 90% of the children who attended safety seat checkups in Colorado last year were buckled up incorrectly. Make sure you are following the current laws and the safest practice for your child. GCEMS has trained technicians on staff, please call to make an appointment (970)887-2732, Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm.

Touch-A-Truck
Kids have the opportunity to enjoy an exciting morning of big trucks, dump trucks, fire trucks, ambulances and even a Flight for Life chopper. Touch a Truck Day is a hands on experience for the entire family (parents must accompany children). Kids will get the opportunity to see what it’s like to sit behind the wheel of the really big rigs.
Community AED Outreach Program
Defibrillation within three minutes lifts the chance of survival from sudden cardiac arrest to 70 percent. Local EMS services typically can’t respond that quickly. That’s why every community needs to have an AED on hand – at the library, places of worship, the mall, the park – anywhere where two or more gather. Grand County EMS searches for funds and grants so we can place more AED’s throughout the community. GCEMS on duty crew members also maintain the AED’s once they have been placed by checking their operation and battery power at the beginning of every month. GCEMS also hosts numerous classes in CPR and AED use, please see our education page.
